CEREC: Dental Restoration in One Visit
Dental Professionals use the revolutionary CEREC technology…
This is the eighth service in our series “10 Advanced Chicago Dental Services to Keep Your Smile Beautiful” which is also available as a FREE eBook at www.DentalProfessionals.com/ebooks.
…to custom-fabricate ceramic dental restorations in just one visit.
CEREC (CERamic REConstruction) is a dental restoration product that uses a variety of computer technologies, including 3D Photography and a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing).
With the help of CEREC, Chicago dentists at Dental Professionals can accomplish the entire process of creating a natural-looking, all porcelain restoration while you wait. In 2010, we purchased the latest upgrade—CEREC BlueCam AC machine—so Dental Professionals can offer you advanced technology that works quicker and better than ever before!
How does it work?
- Our dentists use a special camera to take pictures of your damaged teeth.
- Picture is transferred to color computer screen and stored as a 3D model.
- Computer software is used to approximate the restoration shape, using comparisons to surrounding teeth.
- Dental Professionals refine that model using CAD technology to design it and CAM technology to create it.
- We bond the custom designed piece to the surface of your old tooth.
The old way: Back in the stone-age, before CEREC, patients had to receive an anesthetic injection. Then, the tooth was prepared, an impression of it was taken, and a temporary restoration was put on the tooth. Then…(yes, still not over!) the patient made a second appointment to remove the temporary restoration and have the permanent one installed. What a process!
Now…with CEREC there’s no need for uncomfortable molds or temporary restorations.
